Construction started on this canal in 1917 and remained in use through 1946.

One miscalculation at the start of the project was that there was not enough water flow to keep the silt of Rock Creek suspended from start to finish. The result was a constant build-up of silt inside the inverted siphons designed to move water across small ravens and valley floors that stretched from .10 mile to .25 miles.
